Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

It  is a science which is based on the principle that the internal organs and other structures of the body are mapped out, via reflexes, in the feet, in the hands and in other parts of the body. The feet represent a microcosm of the body, and so the organs, glands and other body parts are laid out in the feet. For most people what is located in the right side of their body is found in their right foot, and what is located in the left of their body is found in their left foot. Reflexogy takes place as specific press-pointing is applied to precise reflex points on the feet. The aim is to achieve harmony and balance in the individual, assisting their body's own healing energies - whether that's to help re-balance or to maintain a person's good health.

What happens during a session?

I give time to gathering information from you ascertaining any problem areas you may be experiencing, if any.

During the practical session I initially massage both of your feet to gently warm them and to gently boost the circlation. I then work by pressure pointing the areas on your individual feet, and as I do so I am feeling for areas which may be out of balance. Areas which are out of balance tend to feel different to the therapist's touch, and usually the client will notice a different sensation too. This guides me where to give more attention, along with the related areas. By applying pressure I am helping to stimulate your body's own healing energies.  I treat you holistically, as an individual person, rather than working on a "one size fits all" principle.

What can be helped?

Reflexology has a beneficial effect on the systems of the body and helps them to work in harmony. So, if for example, someone presents with being "stressed-out" and having digestive problems, it's very likely these are linked. By working on all the systems we are aiming at harmony, with each system being part of a jigsaw puzzle where if one or so areas are out of balance, it has the knock-on effect to others. Treating the puzzle-parts that are out balance, helps to re-align and "fit" them into the picture again. Many people have reported that reflexology has been beneficial to them for a variety of challenges, such as insomnia, stress, digestive disorders, headaches, pmt, other menstrual problems, anxiety, muscular aches and pains .... to name a few presenting problems.

What are the costs and session times?

£25.00 per session. The first session usually lasts about 65 minutes as I gather information from you, and subsequent sessions last for about 45 minutes. There is no additional cost for the longer first session.

How many sessions would benefit me?

This will depend upon what is happening to you at the time. Many people find they benefit from a course of 6 sessions, whilst others find that 3 sessions are enough for them. Others like to make it part of their lifestyle, and incorporate it as a part of their  preventative and wellbeing maintenance programme.

Our practice is based on the south coast of England, in Bournemouth, Dorset.
